case study
BCB& associates were commissioned by the governing body of one of Britain’s leading sports associations to undertake a cost and quality analysis of its monthly magazine, to recommend areas for improvement, and to implement the necessary changes.
We reported that the costs were too high and the quality too low.
We cut 30 per cent from the print and production bills by choosing new suppliers.
We redesigned the magazine to make it easier and more attractive to read, introducing a more space-efficient layout that was consistent in style and logical in order throughout the magazine.
We applied professional sub-editing skills to tighten up and improve the readability of the copy. This allowed a cut in the number of pages each month without harm to the breadth of coverage, for further savings in print, production and distribution.
We recommended and oversaw the installation of the appropriate magazine production technology in the editorial office.
We helped recruit and train new editorial staff.
We established working procedures and systems to keep the magazine on schedule and working efficiently.
We worked entirely hands-on for the relaunch issue, from commissioning the words and photography to passing the final pages for press. We helped and oversaw the production of the next two issues.
